Collection of pictures showing how a stock Datsun 510 got his swap from a 03 s2000 donor ;it takes almost the same time chopping the frame for either other swap, so I felt more confortable swapping a s2k engine & tranny on it. I didn't know where to start, but somehow everything started to taking place in a house garage with some basic tool that my grampa left me. Overall this could be called as frankestein swap because of the info and parts used. Ei: Subaru R160 LSD, Nissan Maxima rear calipers with KYB AGX Mitsubishi Eclipse adj shocks , front brakes and suspention provided by Datsun 280zx shocks with eibach springs and Nissan 240sx camber plates with tokiko adj shocks,Datsun 210 brake booster with 280zx master cilinder, 04 S2000 motor/ tranny with a custom crossmember 50%honda 50% datsun driveshaft. S2000 Cluster on 510 frame, old recaro front seats with Mitsubishi EvoVIII rear seat. mix and match for the datsun / honda wireharness and fuse box , AEM standalone system. Griffin Ford Mustang radiator, with AN radiator hoses.... the list goes for the wiring , same as the brake system and plumbing. It took me around 7-8 months to finish it , working mostly at night and weekdays. The main issue was to keep the most of the original geometry of the Datsun...and basically remained the same, only for the tranny tunnel wich it was extended. custom header and exhaust, muffler provided by Greddy RSX type S muffler gave a low tone on the open pipe exhaust. the car ran around last ...

There have been many technological advances in the trucking industry when it comes to the safety of the drivers and collision prevention. One of the new products that are available currently is a side collision warning system.

These systems use sensors that are placed on the side of the trailer to help the drivers detect vehicles that are located in their blind spot. A very high percentage of commercial truck collisions happen on the blind spot of the vehicle.

The sensors that are placed on the side of the trailer communicate with a display unit that is installed in the cab of the vehicle. The sensors use either sonar or radar technology to detect potential collisions within the covered area. The coverage area varies between makes. Some sensors are able to read potential hazards up to 120 degrees. They often cover an 8 foot by 13 foot area.

Drivers that also use a front end collision detection system can also interface their side collision detection system into the same display model in many cases. This will eliminate the need for multiple displays and helps to limit the cost to the drivers.

There are some issues with the use of these systems though. The sensors are normally placed in the side of the trailer and the display unit will be located in the cab of the truck. These units will need to be used together and the display units are not interchangeable with the sensors. This limits the amount of driver that will be able to use these units to drivers that exclusively use their own trailers.

Its parts have to be so accurate that no machinery is of use here. The piston and its cylinder must be hand sanded to perfection, and they are very likely to crack in the process! Modifying your exhaust system on your Honda Civic is one of the most cost effective solutions to adding horsepower and torque. The exhaust system is made up of the exhaust manifold(header), downpipe, catalytic converter, muffler, and exhaust tip. Since we are discussing Honda Civic cat back exhausts we will be concerned with the piping and muffler choice.

There are several options when it comes to Honda Civic cat back exhausts. You could buy a direct bolt-on kit from one of the several exhaust system manufacturers. You also could purchase a system from a local muffler shop. Each choice has distinct advantages and disadvantages.

To understand why its necessary to upgrade to a Honda Civic cat back exhaust, I'm going to use an analogy. Its all about exhaust escape velocity and exhaust flow capacity. Imagine a water hose. If you take off the spray nozzle the water will flow slowly, but it will flow out at more volume. If you attach the nozzle the water will flow faster, but volume will decrease. In order to make good power from a Honda Civic cat back exhaust you are going to want to find the perfect balance between velocity and flow. This is where your Honda Civic cat back exhausts piping size comes into play.

Honda Civics utilize a small four cylinder engine for power production. This means that for naturally aspirated applications(no forced induction) you do not need piping any larger than 2.25 inches. If you go any larger you will notice a decrease in bottom end power. Larger piping is like taking the nozzle off of the water hose. Higher exhaust flow, but decreased velocity.

The muffler that is used in your Honda Civic cat back exhaust also effects total power gained. You may choose to go for a glasspack, which is a canister stuffed with fiberglass to reduce noise. These type of mufflers flow extremely well, but they are extremely loud. You may draw unwanted attention from your local law enforcement officers.

Honda Civic cat back exhausts sometimes employ other canister style mufflers that use a combination of baffles and fiberglass to reduce noise. This is the most common choice of Honda Civic tuners. These type of mufflers give your Honda Civic that signature unmistakable Honda four cylinder exhaust tone.

Another choice is to have no muffler at all! This will provide you with the best flow, however the noise will be almost unbearable to those outside of your vehicle. I would only recommend doing this if you were going to use your Honda Civic for off-road use only, such as drag racing or autocross.

Honda Civic cat back exhausts come in many different forms and fashions. Choosing the correct one will set your Honda Civic apart from all of the others. Remember to shop around and consult other Honda Civic tuners to help you make a good buying decision.

All gasoline powered engines require a spark to ignite the mixture of gasoline and air. This spark must occur at the right time and in the correct cylinder. This is accomplished by the ignition system.

There are basically three types of ignition system used: the conventional breaker point typesystems that were used in vehicle from the early 1900s to the mid 1970s; the electronic systems; and the new distributor-less or wasted spark system that was introduced in the mid 80s and is still used today.

All ignition systems employ four basic components a battery to provide power for the system, a coil that is used to increase the voltage supplied by the battery from 12 volts to about 30,000 volts, a distributor that directs the high voltage to the right cylinder and a sparkplug that produces the spark that ignites the fuel mixture.

Point-type system:

In this type of ignition system, the battery power is fed through a resistor to the primary side of the coil and is then grounded through the closed ignition points in the distributor. Causing the current to flow through the primary, windings and creating an intense magnetic field.

As the distributor cam turns, the points are opened interrupting the flow of current causing the magnetic field to collapse. The collapse of the magnetic field causes the lines of force to cut through the secondary windings. Since the ratio of turns in the secondary windings is higher than the primary, the voltage is increased to about 30,000 volts.

The distributor rotor acts as a selector switch directing the high voltage created by the coil to the sparkplug in the proper cylinder where the spark causes the fuel mixture to ignite.

One of the major problems with this system was the points. Due to the arcing created by the points opening and closing the points would become burned which would render them useless after a while. Placing a condenser across the points would improve this condition but the points would still need to be replaced about every 10,000 miles.

In addition to the points the contacts on the rotor and cap would also become burned and would also need replacing.

Electronic systems:

In the 70s new emissions laws and the need for greater reliability created a need for a higher mileage, reduced emissions ignition system with greater reliability, which led to the development of the electronic ignition systems.

The major difference of the Electronic ignition system from the conventional ignition systems is the distributor components. Instead of a distributor cam, points, and condenser, the electronic ignition system has an armature, a pickup coil, and an electronic control module.

All electronic systems operate basically the same current flows from the battery through the ignition switch to the coils primary windings. The primary current is turned on and off as the armature revolves past the pickup. As each tooth of the armature nears the pickup coil, it creates a signal to the electronic module to turn off the flow of current to primary side of the coil. A timing circuit in the module will turn the current on again after the coils magnetic field has collapsed, which causes a high voltage in the secondary windings of the coil. The remainder of the system still operates the same as in a conventional ignition system.

In the electronic ignition systems the problem with the points has been solved but the rotor and cap still need to be replaced periodically.

Distributor-less systems:

The distributor-less ignition systems is not truly distributor-less, it just no longer has a mechanical distributor. It has been replaced by an electronic switching system.

There are two types of distributor-less systems, the true distributor-less system and the wasted spark system.

The distributor-less ignition has a dedicated coil for each cylinder. The timing of the spark is controlled by an Ignition Control Unit (ICU) and the Engine Control Unit (ECU).

The wasted spark system each cylinder is paired with the cylinder opposite it in the firing order. The ends of each coil secondary leads are attached to spark plugs for the paired opposites. These two plugs are on what is known as companion cylinders, cylinders that are at Top Dead Center (TDC) at the same time. But, they are paired opposites, because they are always at opposing ends of the 4 stroke engine cycle. When one is at TDC of the compression stroke, the other is at TDC of the exhaust stroke. When the coil discharges, both plugs fire at the same time.

The distributor-less ignition system has finally solved both of the reliability problems with the ignition system that has pledged automobile engines from the 1900s till the mid 80s. But there is still hope for older vehicles; as there are several very good aftermarket conversion kits available on the market at affordable prices.

Turbo systems have made the Evo tuner world what it is today. The question is which Evo Turbo for the Evo X gives the best bang for the boost. The three main contenders are Street Assassin, Forced Performance, and Garret. The Street Assassin 50 is the easy, bolt on Evo Turbo. After this relatively quick install, you should expect about a 150 hp gain and high eleven's on the track.

FP puts a present under your tree with either the Red or Green Evo Turbo. Just like the Street Assissn 50, the FP Green is a bolt up unit that looks almost entirely stock. It gives a shorter spool for quicker power, but can't match the Red for max horses. The FP Red turbo will get you close to 500hp and high ten's on the quarter mile. Although, you might be disappointed with the lag and might need to compensate with some cam work

Garret by far has the most variety to offer, although the cost is more decisions, more confusion, and more money. The models for the Evo X include the GT30R, GT35R, and the GT37R. Don't let the alphabet soup become overwhelming. The numbers correspond to the frame size of the inducer on the exhaust. Essentially, as this gets bigger, there is more potential power, but more lag. This is seen when comparing the GT35R with the GT37R. One blogger claims that the GT37R makes 75 more hp than the GT35R, giving more than 700 whp. The downside is that the GT37R takes longer to spool to give that power.

In short, the Street Assasin is the easiest and cheapest. Pop it in, get the power, and go. The FP options give some variability. Go with FP Green for a stock look with a little more, and choose FP Red if you're planning to ramp things up later. Garret by far offers the most variability. This lets the die hard get every ounce of performance out of optimizing A/R ratios, trim calculations, and compressor maps. Of course, all this comes with a price.
